How It Works
Certain eBooks bought at Barnes & Noble with the LendMe feature or for Amazon’s Kindle can be lent out. These eBooks can be read on a Nook eReader, or by downloading the Nook App or for iPad, iPhone, PC, Mac, Blackberry, or Android device (this includes many phones and other eReaders). You can not use the Kindle, Kobo, or Sony eReaders to read Nook’s ‘LendMe’ eBooks. The same is true for Kindle’s eBooks. They can only be lent out to Kindles or any device with the Kindle App. The LendMe feature only allows you to loan out an eBook one time for 14 days. After that it is no longer lendable at any time. If you know of other ways to lend eBooks LEGALLY we’d be happy to learn about them.
Register: To register a FREE account with us simply click register under the log in options on the right of this page. Fill in your email and desired user name (no spaces). Your password will be emailed to you.
You do not need an account to use Lend eBooks, but it offers more functionality and security. If you choose not to register simply type in your name and email address in the fields under “Add An Ebook.” With either option, we will never share your email address.
How to Add an eBook Submission
Where: Click on the “Browse Listings” tab at the top of any page. The submission form (just like the one shown here) is on the right hand column.
Log in: If you are a user, log in above the submission form, otherwise you can submit as a guest by filling in your name and email address.
Book Title: In the Book Title field type in Lend, Trade or Borrow (depending on what you’re wanting to do) then the title of the book. For example, if you want to lend the eBook Pillars of the Earth the title would look like this:
Lend – Pillars of the Earth
If you want to trade, list the eBook you will be lending in the swap, for example:
Trade – Pillars of the Earth
Add content: You can leave this blank or you can choose to put in the author, or other information you might find useful such as when you’ll be able to loan the book out.
“By Ken Follet. I have 50 pages left so I can’t lend it out today, but I should be done by Friday. I want to trade for Eat, Pray, Love but I’m open to other suggestions for the swap.”
Pick Categories: Choose the bullet for Lend, Borrow, or Trade depending on what you intend to do. Then choose the genre (the default is fiction).
Responding to A Submission
Comment On Submission: If you’re interested in borrowing an eBook, comment on that post and leave your email address (they need it to send you the eBook).
Hook me up! name at email dot com
Alternatively, registered users can send a personal message which prevents their email from being posted on Lend eBooks public forum. In this case, we still suggest leaving a comment to let future guests know you’re going after the book. For example,
I’d like this one! I sent you a message with my email.
A response for borrowing or trading would look similar:
I have the eBook you’re wanting. Send me your email.
or
I’ve been dying to read that book! I can loan you World Without End in exchange. Message me if you’re interested.
**The author is under no obligation to pick the first person to request the book. Who they do transactions with is up to their discretion.
Send Private Message: To send a private messages, click on ‘Message User’ under the title. Fill out the form and send. Address the message to the person who made the post. Type their username exactly as it appears after “Posted by” as seen below.
You can also click on the Messages option in the menu bar to access the message center. Then click New Message.
Completing Transaction
Email User the eBook: Once the lender decides who to lend their eBook to they can send the eBook from their Nook or their device running the Nook App. B&N instructions for lending an eBook can be found on their website.
Delete post: Registered users should delete their own post once the transaction is complete. Simply click on “Delete Post” under the eBook title – this feature is only available on posts you have submitted. If you don’t have an account please comment that you’ve received a response to your request and an administrator will come through and delete it. All entries that appear dead will be deleted.
Additional Notes
Other Options for Following the List
All posts are sent to Lend eBooks’ Facebook page and to our Twitter account with the hashtag #lendebooks. This is to make following the site more convenient. For Twitter you can follow the user LendeBooks or just the hashtag. If you’re already in Facebook you can easily check the new listings on the Lend eBooks fan page without having to come to the site. If you decide to borrow a book that’s listed, you will need to come to the site for the exchange.
Advantages of having an account
- You can send personal messages to each other. This provides you the security of not having to put your email out on the web in a comment.
- If you’re already logged in there are less fields to enter when making a submission.
Restrictions
- Only post about lending, trading or borrowing eBooks, all other entries will be deleted.
- Don’t abuse the private messaging system. It is only for the exchanging of eBooks. It is not for you to spam our users.
Advanced Search
You can search by post type (Lend, Borrow, Trade) or by genre under the Browse Listings menu option. You can also search a post type in a certain category under the advanced search menu option. For example search books under Lend in the category Thriller.
